Matthew Grundy

Since a young age, I was fortunate enough to develop a strong passion for the outdoors, whether on the family farm or skiing with family friends during my school holidays. After graduating with an Agriculture degree, I leapt at the opportunity to broaden my horizons and travel to Asia, beginning my journey as a ski instructor.

This was a life-changing moment, as it ignited my passion for sharing people's excitement and enjoyment in the learning process. After taking advice from a close friend, I moved to Zermatt and ever since then, this charming alpine town has become more than just a home. Now, I'm dedicated to enriching other people's experiences and developing their mountain sports skills in this fulfilling and awe-inspiring setting.

I started working as a chef in the UK at a young age, but I already dreamed of having a career in the sports industry. In 2014, my dream became a reality as I embarked on my first season working as a ski instructor. This path allowed me to travel and see such countries as France, Australia and Japan.

It also led me to Zermatt, the town I fell in love with and the place I am proud to call home. By now, I have become part of the local community, accumulated more excellent knowledge of the area and established relationships with locals. After many years of experience in both sport and hospitality, I would like to show the beauty of the mountains to those who are here to explore nature and culture. The Mountain Company has become this opportunity to share my dream.

Lawrence Matthewman

With a bachelor's degree in sports science and a master’s degree in physiotherapy, I have a keen interest in both the biomechanics of sports and therapeutic treatments for typical ski- and snowboard-related injuries. 

First qualifying as a ski instructor in 2008, I now hold qualifications through the British, Swiss, New Zealand and Japanese governing bodies of snow sports. I have been fortunate enough to teach both skiing and snowboarding across the world, but now base myself out of the incredible town of Zermatt. I hope that my wealth of experience and love for Zermatt will help to give people an unforgettable experience.
