With so many incredible eateries in Zermatt, choosing where to eat can feel overwhelming, especially if it is your first time exploring the village. To make things easier, we have put together a personal list of some of our favourite places to eat in Zermatt, from cosy mountain huts to elegant fine-dining spots in the centre.
We have compiled a list of restaurants we enjoy for dining in the village, for lunches on the slopes, and for lunches on the Italian side of the mountain (Cervinia). Whether you are after a classic Swiss fondue, modern alpine cuisine, or a leisurely lunch on the slopes, you will find something here to match every taste and occasion.
Dinner Favourites in the Village
Madre Nostra by CERVO
Madre Nostra is where modern Italian cuisine meets local Alpine warmth. You can expect handmade pasta, grilled meats and fish, and a stylish yet welcoming atmosphere at Hotel Cervo above the village. It is perfect for a special evening with a local touch.
Top Tip: A reservation is always recommended. Before dinner, you are welcome to stop by CERVO Bazaar on the ground floor of the hotel for a cocktail. The atmosphere here is lively, the drinks are excellent, and it’s the perfect way to start the evening.
Stockhorn by the Rex
It is a cosy wood-fired grill house where you can try local Alpine flavours. It is ideal for an organic meat or vegetable dinner, paired with natural wines or homemade kombuchas. The interior evokes local village history, but the vibe is chic, and a relaxed evening among friends is guaranteed.
Top Tip: It is best to arrive hungry: their wood-grilled meats are generous and full of flavour. You can ask for a table near the fireplace, as it is the best spot in the house on a winter evening.

Brasserie Uno
Brasserie Uno is a contemporary fine-dining restaurant that recently earned a Michelin star. Their inventive tasting menus showcase seasonal, regional produce with flair, one for the true food lovers. It is one of the most creative dining experiences in Zermatt and changes with the seasons, so there is always something new.
Top Tip: It is best to book a table in advance, as the restaurant is very popular. In addition, the setting is intimate with not too many tables.

Myoko Sushi & Teppan-Yaki
Myoko, located on the main street, the Bahnhofstrasse, offers a sleek Japanese dining experience in the Alps. The menu includes fresh sushi, sashimi, and hot main courses, while teppanyaki is prepared right in front of you.
Top Tip: If you can, grab a seat at the teppan grill: watching the chefs work is half the fun. Their creative sashimi platters are also perfect for sharing among a family or a group of friends.

Sonnmatten
This homely family-run place is full of charm, comfort food, and drinks. Sonnmatten runs a beautiful terrace in the summer, while winter dinners are served inside the wooden chalet, which is also a cozy hotel. Here, the menu is a mix of traditional Swiss and Austrian dishes, where many plates can also be shared among the table.
Top Tip: On sunny summer days, ask for a table on the terrace; the view of the Matterhorn is spectacular. In winter, try their town's famous schnitzel paired with a glass of local wine.

Le Gitan Grill
This family-owned grill place is lively and relaxed, serving Mediterranean-style dishes and wood-grilled meats. The centerpiece of this restaurant is the large grill, where the team prepares grilled chicken, meat, and shrimp. It is a perfect place for families or groups who enjoy a cosy atmosphere and want to share a bottle of wine from an excellent wine list.
Top Tip: The mixed grill plates are a hit, and you can order them with a serving of the restaurant's signature potato gratin. If you come in early, there is a small inside bar area for aperetivo.

1818 Eat & Drink
This restaurant, adorned with locally designed furniture, offers South American flavours in a stylish setting. The menu is divided into three sections — vegetables, fish, and meat —offering something creative for every taste. It is recommended to share and enjoy the evening family-style.
Top Tip: Their plates are incredible, but do not skip the cocktails, as 1818 is one of Zermatt’s best spots for a pre- or post-dinner drink.

The Cheese Factory
This cosy, traditional spot is definitely the one to try if you are looking for something authentically Swiss. Here one can enjoy raclette, fondue, and hearty Alpine favourites in a warm, wood-panelled setting.
Top Tip: It is perfect for a cosy fondue night. Try the seasonal truffle fondue if available, and arrive early, as it fills up fast during busy holiday times.
Top Lunch Spots on the Mountain

Chez Vrony
Chez Vrony is one of Zermatt’s most famous mountain restaurants, and for many good reasons. Set high on the slopes in the village of Findeln, Chez Vrony serves beautifully presented dishes made from organic produce, including local meats and cheeses. The terrace is iconic, offering incredible views of the Matterhorn, and every detail at the restaurant — from art on the walls to coffee cups — is carefully selected with love and care.
Top Tip: We recommend booking lunch well in advance, especially during holiday seasons - this spot is in high demand. Their homemade charcuterie and signature Vrony Burger are the talk of the mountain.

Zum See
Hidden among 350-year-old chalets just below Furi, Zum See is pure alpine charm. Known for its authentic atmosphere and outstanding cuisine, it is perfect for anyone who loves history, tradition, and mountain hospitality.
Top Tip: This is a great spot to visit on our day off skiing, as it is only an easy half-hour hike from town through beautiful nature. Our favourite dish is veal with rösti, followed by their legendary mille-feuille.

Bergrestaurant Blatten
This spot, a family-run favourite with a long history, is a charming place for lunch for skiers and hikers alike. Nestled just above Zermatt, Blatten is known for its hearty regional and Italian dishes, warm hospitality, and Matterhorn views from the sunny terrace.
Top Tip: For skiers, this is a great lunch stop on the way back down from Furi. For hikers, it is possible to explore the little village with old alpine huts, a small church, and a herb garden. In addition, if you come with children, there are playground facilities.

Fluhalp
High above Zermatt at 2,620 m, Fluhalp combines gourmet mountain dining with breathtaking Matterhorn views. There is a large sun terrace, live music on weekends, and hearty alpine dishes, making it a must-visit in summer and winter.
Top Tip: Time your visit for live music afternoons, it’s an unforgettable experience. Their lamb fillet with rösti or seasonal risotto is always a crowd favourite.

Findlerhof
Set at 2,222 m in the hamlet of Findeln, Findlerhof delivers fine alpine cuisine with a relaxed feel. You can find Italian-inspired dishes, Swiss classics, and unbeatable terrace views over the valley and, of course, the Matterhorn.
Top Tip: It is best to reserve early for lunch and ask for a terrace table, because the view of the Matterhorn is spectacular in this unique location away from the slopes. Take care on the short walk down from the ski piste.

Al Bosco at Riffelalp Resort
Situated high above the village at 2,222 m, Al Bosco offers refined Italian dining with stunning panoramic views. At this elegant place, the menu features fresh pasta, risotto, and classic antipasti made with seasonal, local ingredients.
Top Tip: It is possible to take the Gornergrat Train up for lunch; the journey itself is part of the experience. Our personal favourites are the Matterhorn pizza and their house tiramisu, both of which are as memorable as the views.
Our Favourite Lunches in Cervinia - Italian Side 🇮🇹

Chalet Etoile
This is a legendary mountain restaurant perched beneath the Matterhorn on the Italian side. Known for its warm hospitality, panoramic terrace, and beautifully presented dishes, Chalet Etoile blends regional Aosta Valley tradition with creative Mediterranean flair. You can expect perfectly cooked pasta, fresh fish, and excellent local wines—an indulgent Italian lunch.
Top Tip: This is a must-stop when skiing across to Cervinia. It is busy during peak weeks, so it is best to reserve early. We always order the seafood pasta or veal with lemon, both exceptional with a glass of crisp Northern Italian white.

Bontadini
Bontadini is a stylish mid-mountain restaurant offering both self-service and table service options. Bontadini combines classic Valdostan flavours with modern comfort. It is an excellent spot for all types of lunches: from quick slope-side bites to relaxed meals overlooking the peaks.
Top Tip: If you have time, skip the self-service and book a table inside; the atmosphere and food quality in the restaurant area are top-level. Their homemade pasta and house dolci are well worth the stop.

Ristorante Bricole
Located just off the slopes in Cervinia, Ristorante Bricole serves authentic Aosta Valley dishes with a focus on grilled meats and hearty flavours. This is a rustic, welcoming place where locals and visitors mix easily over generous plates of pasta, steak, and polenta.
Top Tip: We recommend coming hungry, portions are significant and beautifully cooked. The polenta with wild mushrooms and cheese is a local classic.

Foyer des Guides
Run by a local mountain guide and his wife, Foyer des Guides offers genuine alpine hospitality with high-quality Valdostan cuisine. You can choose from dishes built around local ingredients, creative plating, and a cosy wood-and-stone dining room that feels like a home.
Top Tip: For cheese lovers, there is a cheese-and-wine selection sourced from small local producers in the region. For something heartier, try the tagliatelle with venison ragù.

Maison de Saussure
Hidden gem in Breuil-Cervinia, Maison de Saussure combines elegant alpine dining with warm, unpretentious service. The menu changes seasonally, featuring modern takes on Valdostan classics alongside an excellent wine list from the region.
Top Tip: This is an excellent choice if you’re staying in Cervinia for dinner. The lamb with herbs and risotto specials are both beautifully made, and the team’s local wine recommendations are always great.
